A portrait of Chantal McKenzie on a green background.

Home is spelled Spruce Grove

I was born and raised in Spruce Grove and grew up watching my parents, Ted and Judy Saramaga, volunteer and support this great community.  I was also blessed to watch my parents own and operate their own businesses in Spruce Grove. 21 years ago, it was easy for me to convince my husband Angus that Spruce Grove is the best place to make our home to start our family.  We now have three great children, ages 18, 15 and 15 (yes twins) who have kept us busy volunteering in all of their community activities.  I love being involved in the community and enjoy volunteering whether it is Girl Guides, ringette, dance, swimming, Boy Scouts, or Navy League Cadets, I love being engaged with my family’s activities.

I have worked 20 plus years as a civil engineer for The City of Spruce Grove, Al-Terra Engineering, Alberta Transportation, The City of Edmonton and Parkland County.  During that time Angus and I owned and operated The Beer Shak for 15 years.
4 years ago I decided to make a change to step away from my career as an engineer and acquired That Yoga Place and Phoenix Physical Therapy and run for City Council.

This decision allowed me to focus on the two most important aspects of my life - my love for my family and my passion for my community of Spruce Grove.  I love working with my husband to run our three businesses while also having the opportunity to work for my community as a City Councillor.

I have extensive experience in budgets, financial statements, water, sewer, storm water, road construction, residential, commercial, & industrial development, the role of governance, inter-municipal relations, by-laws, policies, social & economic development, all great assets to serve as Mayor.

I have dreamed of becoming Mayor and am ready to utilize my skills as an engineer, entrepreneur and Councillor to give to the community to make a difference.  With deep respect for the leaders who have brought this city to where it is today, I believe the time is perfect for a fresh style of leadership, skills, and vision to help our brilliant city strengthen and grow.
