Inclusive & Supportive

Building equity into the foundation of our community.

A City Thrives When Its Citizens Thrive
Inclusive and equitable growth is essential, not only for a fairer society but for a stronger, more resilient economy.

Spruce Grove is a growing, dynamic city. But as we grow, we must ensure that the benefits of that growth are shared across all groups in our community. Ignoring the realities of inequality not only limits opportunity, it weakens the trust between residents and their local government.

As we plan for the future, inclusiveness must be embedded in everything we do, from daily operations to policy-making and the outcomes we strive to achieve.

What Inclusiveness Means for Spruce Grove
An inclusive city is one that asks important questions and acts on the answers:
Are we an equitable employer?
Do our staff and leadership reflect the diversity of the people we serve, including women, Indigenous peoples, newcomers, people with disabilities, and other cultural and minority groups?
Are equity and fairness guiding our decisions?
Are efficiency and equity treated as competing goals, or can we design policies that achieve both through a more holistic, people-centered approach?
Are our engagement processes open and accessible?
Are we hearing from a wide range of voices, and especially from those most affected by our decisions? Open, accessible engagement leads to stronger, more responsive policy and service delivery.

My Commitment
Moving forward, I’ll continue to prioritize inclusiveness in local decision-making and community development. This includes ensuring equal access, both financial and physical, to housing, recreation, childcare, and other essential services.

While many of these responsibilities overlap with provincial and federal jurisdictions, we must ensure that, at the local level, our citizens’ needs are being met. Doing so strengthens our community and fuels long-term economic growth and social well-being.

Our Priorities for an Inclusive City
*
Advancing Reconciliation and strengthening relationships with Indigenous peoples and all cultural communities.
* Supporting Housing Availability that meets diverse needs and income levels.
* Expanding Programs and Services that are accessible, inclusive, and reflective of our city’s diversity.

Listening, Learning, and Leading Together
Spruce Grove isn’t a homogenous community, and our policies shouldn’t be either. Ongoing conversations, inclusive planning, and genuine invitations for participation are key to building a city where everyone feels supported and seen.

When every citizen has a chance to contribute and succeed, our whole city moves forward together.
